Hi, I’m Heather

I'm an empirical microeconomist on the 2024-2025 job market. My current research focuses on the economics of illicit drug markets. I am also passionate about pedagogy and economic education.

My job market paper, Kingpin Down: Power Vacuums, Market Structure, and the Violent Consequences of High-Profile Arrests, uses natural language models on 21 million news articles to track Mexican criminal enterprises. I show that removing leaders disrupts market structure, creating power vacuums that intensify violent competition.
